amul-mohan

We have all heard about two films of mammoth strength releasing on the same day and succeeding alike like DIL and GHAYAL. But now things have changed as have the economics. No major studio would like its profits and bottom-line to be at a grave risk by the release of any other major movie. Hence PAD MAN was supposed to release on January 25 and collect a big booty during the big weekend and the Republic Day holiday. There was no other movie in the race with PAD MAN. But unfortunately for Akshay , the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much in the news fi lm PADMAVAT after getting a U/A Certificate with a few cuts is all set to release on January 25 and will most probably have a massive opening. Hence it was a wise business decision on part of Akshay to release his film on February 9. Usually Akshay’s films have an opening akin to the Khan films but this time round he has publicized PAD MAN in a big way and it’s his own hard earned money he has put in the film and his wife who is also the producer, her reputation will be at stake. On February 9, although two other respectable films are going to be released like Neeraj Pandey’s and Sheetal Bhatia’s AIYAARY starring Siddharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee and is an army drama and the other one is a Luv Ranjan’s comedy romance caper SONU KE TITU KI SWEETY, but they would find it very tough to compete against the huge draw of Padman and the directorial acumen of R Balki. Also starring Radhika Apte in an important role PAD MAN will bring in the initial audiences in droves leaving the other films in a quagmire. PAD MAN is certainly a huge film and the other two films will have to be rich in content to give any competition to the Akshay magic. Hence Akshay has taken a wise decision to postpone the film since a Jan 25 release would have been equally bad for both the films. Akshay is the better businessman among all the other stars and knows a thing or two about his film’s business. His last two films Toilet- Ek Prem Katha and Jolly LLB-2 have been big hits and its very important for Akshay to have a business more than these two films to keep his box office magic intact in the industry. It’s the first biopic that Akshay is acting in and it surely will draw his fans to come into the theaters in the weekend. Let’s hope for Akshay’s sake that his decision hits the bulls eye at the box office and PAD MAN proves to be one of the biggest hits of his super successful career. Postponing the film surely is not a negative decision but a decision taken to enhance the business of his film. Well, here is hoping that February 9 is another major winning date for Akshay!
