“The goal is to keep doing something which I love and I love acting”
How did Bollywood happen to you?
To be honest it was a natural transition. I had worked so hard and achieve a supermodel status which led to me being cast in more TV commercials which eventually led to Dharma and ‘Kapoor and Sons’ which was a dream come true.
What was the starting point for ‘Kapoor and sons’?
Dharma had invited me in for a test and they gave me a bunch of different scripts to read and were a combination of both Hindi and English. They also wanted to see how I improvised as well as my ability to act.
After making your presence felt on the screen, how as the scenario been after that?
It’s been insane. I’ve been reading a lot of scripts from both Bollywood and Hollywood and I feel my career has been taken to the next level. There’s been a lot more appreciation and recognition for my acting ability and I’m so grateful for all the support I have received.
To act alongside Fawad Khan, how were the whole experience and the collaboration with him?
He is honestly so down to earth and so sweet. There is no air of arrogance. He treated me like his equal. Even after filming when I have bumped into him at events he’s always been so warm and welcoming.
Stepping onto Bollywood industry with having competitors around, how do you see such a scenario? And what’s your take on this?
Like any career path it is tough but I feel that my experience as an international model and having developed a tough skin helps. All one can do is really try their best. There are of course, like in any industry, those who are connected enough to get that easier route but each to their own I say. Let the best one win.
As an actor what’s your biggest goal?
To make sure I enjoy what I do. As once it becomes boring or monotonous then you have lost your passion. The goal is to keep doing something which I love and I love acting. Naturally other goals include receiving recognition for my ability and playing roles which really challenge my ability.
What has been your learning so far?
I have learnt to really believe in the character. To block everything out when I perform and become the role. It’s natural to feel shy or feel embarrassed, if performing a comic act where you have to be crazy but I’ve learnt to ignore that shyness and really become the role.
What are your future plans?
More movies in both, Bollywood and abroad; and I am really excited.
Lastly, how special is this Diwali for you?
Every Diwali is special for me. I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone and switching off from work for a bit and of course the glamorous parties.
