Ever since its trailer has been unveiled, ‘Happy Bhaag Jaaegi’, has created all the right buzz, for several reasons. It’s a quirky romantic comedy, which also has a lighter take on the India-Pakistan relationship. We think that the film will hit the right chord at the box-office. Here’s why!

We can see trailer seems to be very funny despite the fact that it’s not easy to make a clean comedy. The use of Urdu words and tone of the film is refreshing. After making the audience fall in love with ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, Anand L. Rai seems to be promising lots of fun with ‘Happy Bhaag Jaegi’ as well. Diana Penty plays Happy, a feisty, free-spirited girl who has run away from her own marriage. In one scene; Happy is seen giving Indian currency note to a Pakistani auto-walla. In another scene, Bilal’s fiancée questions Bilal (Abhay Deol) and Happy about their relationship. Later Happy is seen kidnapped by some people in Pakistan, but Happy doesn’t seem a bit intimidated by her kidnappers. We watch an exasperated Jimmy going to Pakistan to get back her bride and blames Pakistan for having played foul in his marriage. All this leads to suspense, confusion, and anticipation. We loved the mad trailer and look forward to the film!

Diana Penty who was last seen is ‘Cocktail’ as an introver is now be seen as a fearless, Punjabi girl. The rest of the cast is very interesting as well. Jimmy Shergill is playing Daman Singh Bagga, who is a powerful politician and wants to get married to Happy. Also Ali Fazal playing Guddu, is Happy’s innocent lover. Abhay Deol is playing Bilal Ahmed, a charming and rich gentleman from the other side of the border. While Jimmy Shergill has created a certain niche for himself, Fazal has been appreciated in films like ‘Fukrey’. And one will see the very endearing Abhay Deol on-screen after a while. The audience seems to be already looking forward to the film because of this interesting ensemble cast.

The first song ‘Aashiq tera’ from the film expresses Happy’s adventurous journey which makes her so lovable that anyone can fall in love with her. The romantic track makes us all the more eager as it features all the three actors intimidated by Happy. Composed and sung by Sohail Sen and Altamash Faridi, ‘Aashiq tera’ is penned beautifully by Mudassar Aziz and establishes Happy’s character. ‘Gabru Ready to Mingle Hai’ is a typical Punjabi fun number song sung by a variety of singers including Mika Singh, Tarranum Malik, Neeti Mohan and Danish Sabri. The latest number is ‘Yaaram’ which is a soulful track with a soothing tone. In the voice of Javed Ali, it is a Sufi-style song. The songs are already striking a chord with the audience.

Anand L. Rai

With films like ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, its sequel and ‘Ranjhanaa’, it seems like Anand L. Rai can do nothing wrong. Although he is not directing this one, one expects great quality cinema from him even as a producer. All in all, ‘Happy Bhaag Jaaegi’ set to release on August 19, looks really promising, and one hopes it meets all the expectations!
