Our Opening Day Prediction

‘Helicopter Eela’, which is based on Anand Gandhi’s play ‘Beta Kaagdo’ deals with a mother-son relationship and the idea of regaining oneself. The trailer so far has received some great feedback. We think the fi lm will strike a chord amongst cinegoers and here’s why!

The subject

The film deals with a mother-son relationship and not losing touch with one’s own self which is perhaps quite relatable. Films that relate to the audience at an emotional level with the human element defi nitely strike a chord and have a great hope of fi nding space amongst the audience. In that sense, ‘Helicoper Eela’ is creating a good buzz.

Kajol

One doesn’t see more of her in movies. She comes after a while on-screen and her fans wait for her. Also, she comes with fi lms that have a certain value attached to them, or the audience perhaps expects her to be associated with fi lms of a certain stature and quality. So, her fans might just lap on to this one for seeing Kajol onscreen after a while, and in a fun element!

Pradeep Sarkar

Director Pradeep Sarkar is known for some wonderful films like ‘Parineeta’ and his previous film, ‘Mardaani’ is still remembered by the audience. So, Pradeep Sarkar teaming up with Kajol might be an interesting combination for the audience to watch.

aBased on a play

It’s a great trend for movies which are based on plays or a book being made. ‘Helicopter Eela’ is based on a Gujarati play ‘Beta Kaagdo’ so a section of the audience might already have a certain recall value, wanting them to watch the fi lm. Also, only when a play or book is well received, will it be turned into a fi lm for a larger audience, so the expectations are pretty high!
