>>> Not long ago Hotstar announced Hotstar Specials, which will be their exclusive original shows and films, similar to how Netflix have Netflix Originals. Hotstar has partnered up with some filmmakers like Shekhar Kapur, Neeraj Pandey, Kabir Khan, Nikkhil Advani, Ram Madhvani, Mahesh Manjrekar and Rohan Sippy for the same. Mahesh Manjrekar will be creating a show based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war, as a part of the Hotstar Specials. He is already in talks with several big names for the same. >>> Emmay Entertainment to come together with Siddharth Roy Kapur’s Roy Kapur Films to make a show on the life and times of Homi J. Bhabha, the founder of India’s nuclear power, for Jio Studios. Homi Bhabha was an Indian nuclear physicist, founding director, and professor of physics at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and was known as the father of indian nuclear programme. Bhabha was awarded the Adams Prize (1942) and Padma Bhushan (1954). He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize for Physics. Ranjit Tiwari who directed Lucknow Central will be directing this show.

>>>Bela Saigal, the sister of film maker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who last directed Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, will now be directing a show for Applause Entertainment. The show will go on the floors soon while the casting is currently underway. Watch this space!

>>>Excel Entertainment, after making MIRZAPUR and INSIDE EDGE, will now be getting the stories from the book DONGRI TO DUBAI to the web. The makers are planning to adapt the 63 chapters of the book written by S. Hussain Zaidi into a three season web show with each season having around 10 episodes each. DONGRI TO DUBAI is said to be the first attempt to chronicle the history of Mumbai Mafia. The show is currently being scripted and the casting is also underway while the makers plan to begin the shooting for the first season in March.

>>> Marathi film FIREBRAND, produced by Priyanka Chopra’s Purple Pebble Pictures will be released straight to Netflix on February 22. The film stars Usha Jadhav, Girish Kulkarni, Sachin Khedekar and Rajeshwari Sachdev and is directed by Aruna Raje. The film revolves around a successful lawyer who tried to juggle her personal and professional life while dealing with PTSD and intimacy troubles in her marriage. This film becomes the first digital production for Purple Pebble Pictures.
