Synopsis:Four masked men break into the Anand family home, taking them hostage. Pushed into a do-or-die situation, Dr. Mira Anand has to make a choice. Will she take a life or save lives?

What’s it about:Hostagesis a remake of the highly appreciated Israeli show. It tells the story of the Anand family that resides in the high society of Delhi and are blessed to have the best of everything in life. The story revolves around Dr. Mira Anand (Tisca Chopra) who is a surgeon at a renowned hospital and has landed the biggest surgery of her career till date. She is to operate on Chief Minister Khushwant Handa (Dalip Tahil). Her husband Sanjay (Parvin Dabbas) is the principal of a school and we learn that he has secrets to hide of his own. They are parents to two teenagers; college-going Shaina (Malhar Rathod) who has just found she is pregnant and Shovan (Sharad Joshi) who is about to leak examination papers to impress a senior at school. Then there is also this respected Police Officer Prithvi Singh (Ronit Roy) who cracks a tricky case on the last day in the police force. Just when it seems like another normal day in the Anand family, a group of masked men break in and take them hostage. They do this with one objective; they demand that Mira kills the CM when she operates on him the next morning, and if she doesn’t comply, her family will be killed one by one. This puts Mira in shock and she is now frightened. Will she actually kill the minister or save her family somehow? What happens next forms the rest of the story.

What we liked:The biggest thing that worked in the series’ favour was the acting performances from Tisca Chopra and Ronit Roy. They both manage to give a really intense performance and were a real treat to watch. They were the light in this otherwise dull affair. The concept and the story were really strong as well.

What we didn’t like:The story and the concept had a lot of potential and this being a remake of an already existing show makes you think they could have done so much better but they don’t. The script has a lot of faults and errors. There are too many plotholes. So many things in the script that one can’t just simply buy and mainly just too lame and just don’t make sense. The twists and turns that were to make it an edge of the seat thriller, were so disappointing.
