Sridevi, an actress and superstar par excellence who starred in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films passed away on 24 February 2018. She was referred as Indian Cinema’s first female Superstar. She ranked as the highest paid actress of 80’s and 90’s and was the most popular actress of Indian Cinema and was awarded Padma Shri in 2013 by the Government of India, the country’s fourth highest civilian award for her contributions to the entertainment industry. She was married to film producer Boney Kapoor and had two children.

n a career span that lived for five decades, from KANDAN KARUNAI (1967) to Mom (2017), she worked in over 300 films. She made her acting debut as a child artist at the age of 4 in a Tamil film KANDAN KARUNAI (1967) and started her acting career in lead roles as a child with THUNAIVAN (1969), a devotional film. She played her first adult role at the age of 13 in a Tamil film Moondru Mudichu (1976) alongside Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. She then established herself as one of the leading actresses of Tamil and Telugu cinema. She was the leading actress in 16 VAYATHINILE (1977), SIGAPPU ROJAKKAL (1978), VARUMAYIN NIRAM SIVAPPU (1980), MEENDUM KOKILA (1981), PREMABHISHEKAM (1981), MOONDRAM PIRAI (1982), AAKHARI PORATAM (1988), JAGADEKA VEERUDU ATILOKA SUNDARI (1990), KSHANA KSHANAM (1991). She made her Bollywood debut as a child artist in RANI MERA NAAM (1972) but her first starring role in Hindi Cinema came with SOLVA SAWAN (1979) and gained huge attention with HIMMATWALA (1983) starring opposite Jeetendra.

She went on to appear in a series of successful films and showed her acting skills, ability and talent to one and all through movies like MAWAALI (1983), TOHFA (1984), NAYA KADAM (1984), MAQSAD (1984), MASTERJI (1985), GUMRAH (1993) and many others. She was highly praised for films like SADMA (1983), NAGINA (1986), MR. INDIA (1987), CHANDNI (1989), CHAALBAAZ (1989), LAMHE (1991), KHUDA GAWAH (1992), LAADLA (1994), JUDAAI (1997). It was after JUDAAI she took a break from acting and returned years later with the successful comedy drama ENGLISH VINGLISH (2012) and then her 300th
film MOM (2017) which turned out to be her last.

She was an icon, an actress that most kids of the 80’s and 90’s grew up admiring and watching, she leaves a legacy behind that cannot be matched and replaced by anyone else. She was one of a kind and will live forever on the silver screen.
