INDIA’S MOST WANTED is a story of the capture of a terrorist. Our protagonist is Prabhaat Kapoor (Arjun Kapoor) who is an intelligence officer with the reputation of capturing several high-profile criminals. He one day gets a tip that one of the deadliest terrorist is hiding out in Nepal. The terrorist is none other than Yusuf who has masterminded various terrorist attacks in India and because of his record, he had been named India’s Osama Bin Laden. After getting permission to take this terrorist down, unofficially, from his senior Rajesh Singh (Rajesh Sharma), Prabhaat leaves for Nepal with a team of Pillai (Prasanth Alexandrr), Amit (Gaurav Mishra) and Aasif Khan (Bittu). Without informing Rajesh, Prabhaat takes financial and manpower help from Ravi (Bajrangbali Singh) and the team reaches Kathmandu. They meet the source and he tells them that Yusuf had met him through his acquaintance Nadeem to send money to Saudi Arabia. But the source doesn’t know where Yusuf exactly resides. The hunt then begins for Yusuf but they have to face various challenges along the way, like; they can’t use weapons as this isn’t an officially sanctioned mission. There is also the presence of Pakistani ISI in Nepal who will do anything to protect Yusuf at all costs. What happens next forms the rest of the film.

What really works for the movie is the intricacy of the operation Arjun and company are on. The subtle nuances work like magic and keeps the audiences hooked. Any other filmmaker might’ve made a story like this overpowering with one too many factors but writer Raj Kumar Gupta changes the pace of the film to treat the movie like a thriller which really works for the world. However the one thing that hampers the film is that it doesn’t have a jump off point. The thrill reaches crescendo on many a points but the filmmaker doesn’t probably give some key scenes the justification they demand.

Technically, the film is superior. Cinematography by Dudley is great. Editing by Bodhaditya Banerjee is good. The music in the film seems forced but the background score by Amit Trivedi is spot on and brings the action closer to audiences. Production design is good and realistic and the costume design is authentic as well.

Performance wise, the film is good. Arjun Kapoor delivers a great performance. He gives an honest effort and does well. India’s Most Wanted is probably Kapoor’s careers best till date. Rajesh Sharma is good and dependable. Jitendra Shastri is good as well and is quite entertaining. Prasanth Alexandrr, Gaurav Mishra and Aasif Khan are decent. The rest of the cast offer able support.

Raj Kumar Gupta’s direction is immense. His writing choice of treating the movie like a thriller makes the movie a great overall experience. He is able to get some top notch performances from his cast.

3.5

At the box-office

The film has taken a surprisingly slow start but with a good word of mouth coupled with restricted budget of the film should keep its investors happy.
