Aanand L Rai and Phantom Films’ MANMARIYAAN is a modern day love triangle that engages in every scene possible, the film is filled with humour, romance, drama, emotions and a beautiful story that is so relevant in today’s time. As the film starts off, we see Rumi (Tapsee Pannu) is an Amritsar based Hockey merchandise shop owner and Vicky Sandhu (Vicky Kaushal) is a wannabe DJ madly and passionately in love with each other. Rumi’s family’s paternal uncle and aunt want her to settle down in life and enters Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan) a London based banker. On just seeing Rumi’s photo he falls in love with her and what starts is a love triangle. Vicky who has commitment issues does not come to meet Rumi’s Paternal Aunt and Uncle and in anger Rumi gets married to Robbie and what follows is three souls who rediscover themselves. The film could be compared to HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM, TANU WEDS MANU and a few others but director Anurag Kashyap and writer Kanika Dhillion makes it a contemporary, unorthodox and engaging watch as till the last moment one could not guess what is going to happen next. MANMARZIYAAN is a wonderful new age love story with powerful writing, direction and magnificent performances.

Technically the film is brilliant, Cinematography by Sylvester Fonseca is outstanding, he captures the moments beautifully. Editing by Aarti Bajaj is good. Music of Amit Trivedi speaks a lot, it conveys more than the dialogues in some situations. Daryaa and Dhayaan Chand are the pick of the lot. This Kanika Dhillion story showcases all the leads different in nature, behaviour and style from each other, she gives ample space for every character.

Performances wise all the actors look real. It’s their performances that enhances the script. Abhishek Bachchan is back on the silver screen with a storm and proves how talented he is, he portrays the quite, calm Robbie brilliantly. Tapsee Pannu steals the show, the film that largely revolves around her, she plays Rumi perfectly. Vicky is outstanding, he is growing his stature day by day. Other actors like Saurabh Sachdeva and Ashnoor Kaur play their parts very well.

Director Anurag Kashyap proves to one and all that he is one of the finest filmmakers we have in the film industry currently and with MANMARZIYAAN he goes out of his comfort zone and he steers the ship beautifully and makes a new age love story.
