NATIONAL AWARD WINNER TANNISHTA CHATTERJEE SPEAKS UP
I had an opportunity to interact with Tannishta Chatterjee on 2nd July after she had come out of the auditorium after ﬁnishing the Q/A session about her ﬁlm Dr. Rakhmabai , which was screened during 8th Jagran Film Festival at New Delhi . In this ﬁ lm, Tannishta has played the role of Dr. Rahkmabai beautifully. This ﬁlm has been directed by Ananth Mahadevan. The 8th Jagran Film festival was inaugurated on 1st July 2017 at Sirifort Auditurium New Delhi. Rishi Kapoor and other dignitaries including Hon. Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, the Moroccan Ambassador H.E. Mr. Mohamed Maliki graced the occasion. The occasion marked the special screening of the unreleased movie ‘Fakir of Venice’ in presence of its Director and Producer duo – Anand Surapur, Punit Desai.
The mega city and the capital of India, New Delhi was the host of the glittering opening ceremony and the ﬁrst week of the 8th Jagran Film Festival 2017. The gala event was held in the heart of South Delhi at Sri Fort Auditorium II in presence of acclaimed actors, dignitaries, ﬁlmmakers, and cinema lovers. The occasion of ‘lighting the lamp’ and ‘cutting the ribbon’ was done in the company of eminent Bollywood personalities including Rishi Kapoor, Director and Producer pair – Anand Surapur and Punit Desai , Divya Dutta (Jury Member), Tannishta Chatterjee, Manoj Srivastva, strategic Consultant and the Jagran official team.
SM – Can you tell me something about your initial schooling and your basic education?
TC- I am the product of Blue Bells school in New Delhi and did my BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Delhi University in 2002.
SM – Being a science student, how did you land up in ﬁlm industry?
TC- I joined National School of Drama in Delhi and passed out with my Acting Diploma in 2004, which changed my career.
SM – Chatterjees are Bengali. Isnt it? TC- yes, I am Bengali, but never lived in Bengal. My father is an electrical engineer and lived most of the time in Delhi and other places.
SM – Which was your ﬁrst assignment after passing out from NSD?
TC- “SWARAJ”’ directed by Anwar Jamal. In this ﬁlm I have acted as one of the three ladies. This ﬁlm won the National Award as the “BEST FILM’ on social Issues.
SM – Have you ever been to any foreign country?
TC- Yes, I have been in Europe from 2006 to 2012. I acted in German ﬁlm, “Shadows of Time”, directed by Florian Gallen Berger. This ﬁlm was shot in India, in Kolkata (2005) and was shown in Berlin and Toronto International Film Festivals. This ﬁlm won number of European Awards. I did one British ﬁlm, “Brick Lane” directed by Sarah Gavron, which was nominated for best actress for DIFA. I came back to India in 2012.
SM – After coming back to India what did you do?
TC- I acted in an Indian ﬁlm,”Dekh Indian Circus”, directed by Mangesh Hodawala. This ﬁlm won the National award for Best Actress (Special Mention) in 2013. Besides, I have acted in ﬁlms like, “Parched’ directed by Leena Yadav, in which I got Best actress award in IFFLA and in France. The other ﬁlms in which I acted are,” Island City”,” Angry Indian Goddess’ and “ Unindian’.
SM – Which is your next Film?
TC- My last ﬁlm was Dr. Rakhmabai released in 2017. My next ﬁlm is a Hindi ﬁlm, “Jhalki “, directed by Brahmanand Singh.
