Our Opening Day Prediction

‘Paltan’ which is based on the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes along the Sikkim border, is the completion of JP Dutta’s war trilogy. The film has an ensemble cast and here’s why we feel it will make a mark at the box-office.

JP Dutta

The film-maker has the knack of making war films and his earlier films ‘Border’ and ‘LOC Kargil’ have achieved cult status. Hence the expectations from ‘Paltan’ are high. The film-maker also has the expertise of creating a certain era gone by and taking the audience into that world. So, JP Dutta being the film’s director, works as the film’s biggest USP.

Genre

‘Paltan’ being a real-life story, a war film, there would be some sort of curiosity around it and the fact that it will create awareness regarding an event which the audience doesn’t know much about. Films based on real life events have gained immense momentum and appreciation in the last few years so this might just work as well, if it engages the audience.

The ensemble

The film has an interesting ensemble cast, with Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood, Gurmeet Chaudhary, Harshwardhan Rane, amongs many others on board. So, it looks like an interesting unusual mix.

Time of release

‘Paltan’ doesn’t have many big releases to clash with, so it might as well do well. Although the following week has ‘Manmarziyaan’ followed by ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. But if the film is good, positive word of mouth may further help ‘Paltan’ to do well. Also, it’s been a while, we saw a war film.
