There is a popular saying that goes something like; you snooze, you lose. This saying goes aptly with the young actor top bracket in the industry. You cannot, for a single movie keep your eyes away from the big prize. That prize being the top spot, the top dollar and everything top that comes with it. In the past, superstar Ranbir Kapoor has been accused of taking things and his career rather lightly. We don’t think that is case for a minute but the actor is known to pick movies which have failed to live up their individual hype and his own as well.

The year was 2013, the movie in question was Dharma Productions’ YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI. Ranbir was flying high and he the movie ticked off all the correct boxes leading up to its release. The movie went to open at 20 crores on day one. A rare feat, not because that number wasn’t achieved in the past but this was the first time a non-Khan and also an actor from the young brigade has finally managed to take such a bumper opening. Many including me believed that was going to be a turning point for RK and his movie career. But a few bad choices later, people had built up the audacity to question RK’s talent and his stardom.

Flash forward to 29th June 2018, the movie which has everyone talking, is this week’s mega release SANJU directed by Rajkumar Hirani and starring Ranbir Kapoor in the leading role. The movie according to our early estimates is likely to open to a range of 29-30 crores. Which will once again be the highest opening day on a non-holiday with a non-Khan movie as well. For five years now none of the other actors have taken it upon them to close this gap between themselves and RK.

Obviously there is an argument that many of the new young stars haven’t had a chance to be in the industry for as long has RK has been a part of it (11 years to be precise). But there are actors who debuted just before RK as well and they are somehow also in this pool of younger actors who have not really bridged the gap between themselves and the rise of RK at the box-office.

The future looks brilliant for the actor as well, all of his next releases are big, commercial movies a genre set type he has been avoiding for a while now. With movies like BRAHMASTRA, SHAMSHERA and director Luv Ranjan’s next. There are others in the pipeline as well but these ones looks like a line up for a top actor and a line he can be proud of. The 2.0 version of Ranbir Kapoor is going to take the movie world by a new kind of storm and we cannot wait to witness it.
