Movies are perhaps one of the most important tools of Mass Communication and when used properly to create awareness along with entertainment, it has played vital role in creating mass awareness, but there has always been a debate on the fact that which is the most important aspect in a movie, the Actors, Directors, Musician or the Writers. All of them are an integral part of cinema but which is the most important part. The Actors who plays the characters or the Directors who projects the film in front of the audience in a certain manner, the Music which add flavors and entertains or the script.

Time and again we have realized the fact that the most important aspect in a movie is the script. In the past Bollywood has made movies such as ‘Padosan’, ‘Mili’, ‘Chupke Chupke’,’Awara’, ‘Pukar’, ‘Arth’, ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Ankush’, ‘Sparh’, ‘Masoom’ and many more which are certainly one of the all time classic movies of Indian Cinema.

Seeing the movies which were liked by the audience in last two and half years so far and have also worked on the box office, one wonders that is the time Vimal roy, Hrishikesh mukherjee, Shyam benegal type of realistic and family dramas coming back in Bollywood. With films such as ‘Pink’ and ‘Neerja’ last year and movies like ‘Toilet- Ek Prem Katha’, ‘Subh Mangal Savdhan’, ‘Newton’ which were and are the most liked films till now and also have done good business on the box office in comparison to movies such as ‘Raees’, ‘Mubarnkaa’, ’Tubelight’, ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ type of big budget and big superstars movies not doing well except of ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhaniuya’ but even that movie talked about the dowry system which stills continues in different parts of India.

This tells Bollywood that content is always the most important aspect in the movie, which needs to be worked upon, focused more on without doing any sort of compromise. The new generation actors understand this and are doing roles which has more of realism than heroism. The directors today can get inspiration from movies such as ‘Waqt’, ‘Padosan’, ‘Deewar’, ‘Trishul’, ‘Kala Patthar’ ‘Kabhie Kabhie’, ‘Awara’, ‘Pukar’ which not only had big star but big multi stars which went on to become one of the fi nest piece of cinema ever made, but these movies were high on content, message, real issues and social awareness.

People today want to see more realism in cinema than heroism which they can connect with, movies like ‘Subh Mangal Savadhan’, ‘Pink’, ‘Piku’, ‘Hindi Medium’ ‘Vicky Donor’ ‘Udaan’ have connected well with audience and done good business. Superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan in the past have also done movies with talked about various social issues like ‘Swades’, ‘Tare Zameen Par’ which not only are one of their most liked movies but did very good business at the box office.

One wonders this change today is because audience are getting the same old thing in new pack or it is just a storm which will pass by or a revolution which has started, where content should be given the biggest priority than anything else. People today want pan India movies rather than movies which shows Europe and NRI characters. Problems that pan India people are facing, their love stories, and their struggles.

Also since last four to five years movies made on real life incidents and autobiographies have received well by the audiences. They want to see the struggles that real life achievers have faced, their journey to zero to hero, nothing to everything. This is also because today the mediums of providing entertainment is not only restricted to Movies, Television but digital media also provides them entertainment. Today no one wants to watch a movie in a multiplex just because it has good music, good locations they can watch that on Youtube also.

This has also increased the value of reviews again, those who didn’t used to care about movie reviews will have to start caring about it now, movies which didn’t had good reviews worked in the past but it won’t work now, as today people don’t want to go in a cinema hall and spend big amount of money on movie tickets and refreshments if they don’t have an absurdity on how good the movie is. Superstars are not able to pull audience in cinema hall any longer that’s the reality which needs to be accepted, that is where reviews of movies also play a vital part. Character artist actors are the need of the hour. Also with very good content available on digital medium which connects with the audience, need of increasing good content driven movies with social issues and awareness need to be made more.
