Earlier this week, Dharma Productions made a massive announcement that their next will be titled RANNBHOOMI starring none other than Varun Dhawan in the lead. The movie is going to be directed by Shashank Khaitan who has already given not one but two blockbusters with HUMPTY SHARMA KI DULHANIA and last year’s BADRINATH KI DULHANIA. The x-factor about this news break is that the movie is stated to release on Diwali weekend in 2020. Now it might sound like a normal announcement as there are tons of those made every week but there is something more to this announcement. Let me tell you why that is the case though.

Last year Varun Dhawan has had a breakout year with both his releases entering in the 100 crore club. The actor has cemented his place in the industry not only as a dependable star but also in the mind of the movie goers who still adore him so much so they’re willing to put their monies where their mouth is when it comes to anything VD does at the movies.

The big festivals/public holidays/extended weekends are all kept aside for Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. That has been the case for the longest time. Their movies demands that and the generally the audiences lap it all up whenever they have their films coming out on any of these days in a year. So when a young superstar like Varun Dhawan gets his first Diwali release announcement it is a big deal and also gives us a little insight into what the makers maybe thinking about in the future.

According to my people in the trade, Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor are currently the other two who are also going to have mega releases on big holidays starting from next year as well. Kapoor already has his mega venture Brahmastra lining up for a 2019 Independence Day weekend. Singh right now has his GULLY BOY lined up for a Valentines’ Day weekend in 2019. This doesn’t mean that other big stars won’t have their big releases on big days, they most certainly will have those but all it means now is that they will a proper fight with the younger lot which has never happened till date.

Please remember that how this week in February in 2018 is actually the beginning of something new and interesting for the face of this industry for many a decades to come.
