Whether you liked the original or the remix version the trend of remixing and remaking old songs in new films continue to grow.  While Bollywood is often known to seek inspiration from other outlets, sometimes we look back to the past and pick some epic pieces of art that has touched our souls. In that case when we talk about songs- iconic numbers is something that leaves memories behind and when one is reinvented it makes us run down the memory lane.  Songs are one of the most integral part of any film hence the Bollywood music directors aren’t afraid of taking classics and giving them an upgrade!  In modern day of film making this is the new trend that has uplifted in recent times and the music composers and singers are not left behind to recreate songs and also do justice to it. Here we list the top 5 recreated iconic songs back from the 80-‘s to 90’s and which made an impact then and now.These songs which were warmly welcomed by the audience and which took us back to the old days and gave us a chance to groove on it.

Kaala Chashma – This song was the ultimate chartbusters of 2016 as the Punjabi hip-hop party starter of the year from the film ‘BaarBaarDekho’ and most likely played in wedding ceremonies. “Kaala Chashma” doesn’t get old with the fresh pairing of Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra. The song had all the reasons to talk about.  Katrina’s killer moves and Sidharth’s charm raised the song to another level. There’s energy, craziness and enough Punjabi swag amongst them which just nailed the song. For those who remember AmarArshi original from back in 90’s. The recreated version was no different from the old – composed by PremHardeep and recreated by Badshah and voiced by AmarArshi and NehaKakkar.  And sure enough, it became India’s number one song and the most watched YouTube music video of 2016 crossing more than 340 million views.  It was the liveliest and loved song of the 90’s and Badshah has justified the song to every ounce with his rap portions. Laila Main Laila – “Laila Main Laila” is the recreation of a hit iconic song from 80’s “Laila O Laila”, featuring ZeenatAman from the film ‘Qurbani’, which was a classic number. This song from ‘Raees’ has been given a modern tadka and some additional lyrics by JavedAkhtar.  The song created sensation once again and got us nostalgic.  Sunny Leone has impressed everyone with her desi avatar and her sizzling dance moves as it has brought back the liveliness of the classic number. The new peppy item number was recreated by Ram Sampath and which was originally sung by Kalyanji- Anand, has now got vocals by PawniKalyan.  With Sunny Leone’s fan going gaga over the song it was an instant hit and has a major You Tube views of 260+ million.    (You Tube views till date 260+ million)

Humma Humma – The original song was from the film ‘Bombay’ released in 1995 composed by AR Rahman and was sung by Remo Fernandes and A.R. Rahman. It’s been more than two decades now still the obsession over the song hasn’t lessened which was proved when the recreated version was composed by Badshah, Tanishk Bagchi, sung by Jubin Nautiyal and Shashaa Tirupati. The recreated version was from the film ‘Ok Jaanu’ released in 2016. Picturised on Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor – their chemistry was sensuous and the duo looked mesmerizing. Not only did the song hit 200 million views but also strikes the chords of the younger audience and also took us back in the 90’s. The song is definitely sensuous – thanks to the choreography, the lighting and the actors’ racy outfits. Shraddha’s cowboy act is another highlight of the song. While many would still love the original song, the new version is also peppy. Badshah has given the song a new dimension with his rap. Kar Gayi Chull – from the film ‘ Kapoor and Sons’ was an instant massive hit!   The fun, cool, hip-hop track had appealed to all age group audiences.  The number was a recreated version of a Haryanvi song by Fazilpura and Badshah having their own lavish video.  The song is composed by Badshah, recreated by Amaal Malik, written by Badshah and kumaar.  And sung by much loved singers Badshah, Fazilpura, Sukriti kakkar and Neha Kakkar.  Kar Gayi Chull became one of the most popular song known for its rap. Alia and Sidharth drive us crazy with their cool moves and killer suave looks.  Everyone fell in love with the song and the duo. Above all that the signature step composed by ace choreographer Adil Shaikh made everyone gogaga over it…  It was one of the Badshah’s best creation which became youths anthem. Tamma Tamma Again – Featuring the much-loved onscreen pairing of VarunDhawan and Alia Bhatt, from the film’BadrinathKiDulhania’ released in 2017, was a tribute to the original version from 90’s film ‘Thandedaar’ starring Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt. The new version literally made us relive the 90’s. The songs vocals are still by BappiLahiri, AnuradhaPaudwal, and recreated by TanishkBagchi. The rap was courtesy Badshah and vocals were dubbed by AmeenSayani.  Varun and Alia uplifted and justified the iconic song and maintained its principle choreography and hook steps.   The power-packed and foot- tapping number was very well accepted by the audience and was loved and appreciated equally as the original number. “TammaTamma Again” crossed over 200 million views on You Tube. Out of all the recreated songs how can we forget the most popular and hyped song of the year 2016 – 2017,  which didn’t only become the first ever highest viewed Bollywood song but also is one of the iconic party starter song of the season.  We are talking about “Nashe si Chadh gayi” which made an impact and gave a strong competition to the recreated versions.  “Nashe si Chadh gayi” is from the film ‘Befikre’ – Starring Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor. The song is sung by Arijit Singh, written by Jaideep Shni, composed by Vishal and Shekhar and choreographed by Vaibhav Merchant. It’s an upbeat song which sets the dance floor and gets us footloose. Since the time the song was released it has become the most heard song on social media platforms and music apps. Adding to this, It’s become one of the highest viewed You Tube videos which crossed above 325 million views. In this case it’s an eye opener that above all the recreated versions we do have an original number that has proved that we need to have a balance and creativity to get correct songs onboard for our films.
