‘Udta Punjab’ directed by Abhishek Chaubey starring Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles, is set to release on June 17. There’s already immense buzz around the film and it’s music, so let’s take a look at what one can expect from this one.

‘Udta Punjab’ deals with the subject of drug abuse and centers around four lives – a maniac rock star, a migrant laborer, a doctor and a cop in the state of Punjab. The trailer was exceptionally bold and took everyone by storm. It promises a movie nowhere close to conventional Bollywood films and this is what makes it more interesting. The trailer has made enough noise since and the number of views has only kept shooting with each passing day.

Star cast

The movie has grabbed a lot of eyeballs also because of its interesting ensemble cast. Shahid Kapoor is playing the role of Tommy Singh, a rockstar drenched in drugs. He is seen in all-new avatar which has surprised people already. By the looks of it, he has nailed this role. Alia Bhatt is essaying the role of a migrant laborer and the transition from a happy-go-lucky girl in ‘Kapoor and Sons’ to this tanned and rusty village girl is absolutely unbelievable. Kareena Kapoor Khan as a doctor, looks sweet and charming. Diljit Dosanjh who has a mass following in Punjab and also widely popular for his songs, is making his Bollywood debut with this movie. He will be seen as a cop and going by the trailer and other visuals he seems to be a promising powerhouse performer. After ‘Jab We Met’, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be seen together on the silver screen, though they do not have any scenes together.

Amit Trivedi delivers yet another blockbuster with this album. The songs are reigning in all the musical countdowns. The songs ‘Chitta Ve’ and ‘Ikk Kudi’ are being loved immensely by everyone. The music of the movie has been in news since the announcement of T-Series having bought the rights to the film’s soundtrack and album for a staggering Rs.18 Cr which makes it the biggest ever musical deal for any Bollywood movie surpassing the earlier record of Rs.17 Cr set by Salman Khan starrer ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’. The music has provided the required buzz for the film.

Abhishek Chaubey, who has co-written movies like the hits ‘Omkara’ and ‘Kaminey’ and has directed ‘Ishqiya’ and ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ is helming the project. With a good backing from Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films, he seems to have put all his elements – story, starcast, music etc perfectly well in this film. His previous work has been quirky and well-appreciated, so one’s hoping the same from this one.

With all these factors coming together, one hopes for Udta Punjab to strike well at the box-office in its opening weekend and get stronger with positive word of mouth.
