What is it about:

While CRIMINAL JUSTICE Season 1 was the remake of The Night Of, CRIMINAL JUSTICE: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS is the remake of the original show with the same name. The basic plot of the show had been revealed in the trailer itself. Anuradha aka Anu Chandra (Kirti Kulhari) is the wife of a successful lawyer Bikram Chandra (Jisshu Sengupta). Anu is shown to be a very nervous and depressed person who is prone to forget things. Bikram is kind to her and is always trying to help her. One night, something happens and Anu stabs her husband. To make it worse, the whole scene is witnessed by their 13-year-old daughter Rhea (Adrija Sinha).  This case forms the crux of the story this season. Many, including the prosecutors and the court believe this to be an open and shut case as there is a key witness and on top of it Anu has even confessed to stabbing Bikram. Due to this, most of the lawyers refused to take her case up. Finally, a small-time lawyer, Madhav Mishra (Pankaj Tripathi), enters the scene as he sees this case as an opportunity to earn a lot of money. To fight the toughest case of his career, he once again teams up with Nikhat Hussain (Anupriya Goenka) to find out the real motive behind the murder. What happens next, forms the rest of the story.

What we liked:

The show is gripping from the word go. Yes, the storytelling is slow burning and all the intricate details do come together in the end quite beautifully and that’s what makes such stories worth watching. The show takes its time to offer the details and doesn’t hammer it in. Another plus point for the show is that it is very consistent in its storytelling and sticks to it and doesn’t keep changing the tracks and its pace every now and then. The show keeps building your intrigue right till the end. The performances from the actors have been quite amazing as well. This is somewhat a different role for Pankaj Tripathi and in all honesty, it is very refreshing to see him in a different role. Kirti Kulhari plays her part earnestly. The rest of the cast have given wonderful performances as well. Also, the best part being that the season only consists of eight episodes.

What we didn’t like:

Certain twists and turns can be seen coming from miles away, and that does disappoint a little. The editing could have been better as well. We do love good slow burning shows but then certain unrequired things can be edited out as well. Other than these two things, there isn’t much to complain about the show.
