MADAM CHIEF MINISTER

The trailer for Richa Chadha’s upcoming film MADAM CHIEF MINISTER was released recently. Rich plays the role of a dalit woman who goes on to become a chief minister. Though, the disclaimer claims otherwise, the story seems a lot like it is based on the life and rise of UP’s former Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president, Mayawati. Saurabh Shukla is seen playing a Kanshi Ram-like figure, Mayawati’s mentor in the film. Richa’s character in the film draws its inspiration from Dr BR Ambedkar, and much like him Richa too is seen vowing to break free from the shackles of the deeply entrenched caste system in the society. We also get glimpses of her from when she starts on her journey to her becoming a CM, all the while sweeping the masses off their feet with her enigmatic personality. Manav Kaul is seen in the film as Richa’s husband. The film also stars Akshay Oberoi and Shubhrajyoti. Written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, who himself was a political journalist before turning to film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Naren Kumar, Dimple Kharbanda, the film releases in cinemas on January 22.
